Spring at the Shop

April 24th, 2013 // 4:53 pm @

What beautiful spring weather we are having.  Hard to think about knitting when everyone seems to be out doing things after the winter months.  I for one am so happy for the time change.  I still have time to get to the dog park after work and even if we don’t go, it is so nice to see day light when the shop closes for the night.

So spring is here, baseball has started and basketball is almost over.  Do you know what time it really is? It is time to start thinking about holiday gift giving.  I know what you are thinking and don’t yell at me, think about things like socks, hats, scarf, small easy portable projects that you can make and put away until the holidays.  Just think how far ahead you will be when the “crunch” time comes.

We will start having holiday project ideas on display at the shop to give you ideas and suggest that you start looking for gifts you’d like to give.  What better way to spend your time on a road trip than knitting?

Summer yarns are arriving and we were able to purchase a selection of “Yarn Susans”.  This is used to hold your ball of yarn and it turns as the yarn is pulled out.  These are hand made in Michigan, out of exotic woods and are moving fast!  Come in soon to see the selection.

Be sure to read through the newsletter to see what the special discount coupon that is on sale this month.  The coupon must be presented at the time of the sale to receive the discount.  This month’s sale is a good one!

Don’t forget open knitting on Sunday’s and Wednesday’s.  April’s Fiber Friday will be on Friday April 26th from 6 – 7:30.  Nothing better than a Pot Luck and knitting with friends!

My Knitting Bag

March 17th, 2013 // 1:53 pm @

I teach a lot of beginning knitting classes and I am always asked;  what I carry in my knitting bag, what I think is important to have and what things can you do without?

Here is my list for a “Well Dressed Knitting Bag”:

  1. A three ring binder for storing my patterns and extra paper for taking notes.
  2. Plastic sleeves for my patterns to keep them protected.
  3. Highlighter tape to mark (on the plastic sleeve) where I am
  4. Handi-Fix-It Tool.  Easy for quick fixes and can be used as a  crochet hook or a cable needle.
  5. Darning needles.  I can never find one when I need it.
  6. Hand lotion (Make sure it’s contained and doesn’t spill out).
  7. A Nail File.
  8. Scissors or a yarn cutter.
  9. Ring or Interlocking place markers.
  10. Tape measure.
  11. Waste yarn for Life lines or quick holder for stitch.
  12. Pencil.
  13. Post-it notes.

New Year Newsletter

January 9th, 2013 // 6:22 pm @

Dear Two Sisters Friend:

Another New Year.  that last one went by fast.  Too fast.  I’m almost finished with my Christmas knitting.  The question is, do I give myself credit for being ahead for 2013 or do I deduct points for being behind for 2012?  Some years I’ve been known to wrap either UFO’s with the promise of quickly finishing or hanks of yarn with the pattern and the promise of a future hat, socks or what have you.  This year,  between long hours, my usual procrastination (wasn’t that my resolution a couple of years ago?  If it was, and it was, I still do it.) I continue to be behind but the last hat is almost done.  Finally.  That was until my daughter found a leg warmer pattern on Ravelry.com for me to make.  Funny, she searches Ravelry.com and finds great patterns, but she doesn’t knit.  Great gig that girl has going….  And long legs, so where the pattern called for 14 inches in 2×2 rib I have to do 17 inches.  Number 1 is done.

So we are rested and rejuvenated from the Holiday rush and looking forward to the new year.  A group of us were talking during the past “Drop-In” Sunday about all of our UFO’s (Un-Finished Objects).  We all have them.  So February will be designated as “Finishing February”.  Everyone is encouraged to bring in their UFO’s (to our next Fiber Friday, January 25th, 6 – 8 PM).  We will all look at them, make a list of your projects and then plan on February for finishing.  At our February Fiber Friday, we will look at all of the “completed” projects and prizes will be awarded for different categories.  What do you think?  Ready to admit that you have a stack of UFO’s that you really want to finish?  Want the encouragement to get them finished?  Join us on Fiber Friday, January 25th and lets motivate each other.

Happy New Year to you and yours!  We hope to see you soon.
